Beimid ag obair i dteannta an ealaíontóra Rachel Joynt, a roghnaíodh chun píosa mór ealaíne a dhéanamh as cré- umha do ghairdín coille Áras an Uachtaráin, mar chuid de chomóradh 1916.
Tá an-chlú ar shaothar Rachel, go háirithe ar an sculptúr ‘Perpetual Motion’ atá lonnaithe ar an mótar-bhealach taobh amuigh de Nás na Ríogh. D’oibrigh Rachel linn cheana féin nuair a rinneamar coimisniú ar ár sculptúir áille chré-umha atá le feiceáil ar an slí isteach chun na scoile.
Déanfaidh Rachel dearcán mór cré-umha (an Dair mar chrann náisiúnta na hÉireann) agus beidh capsúl ama le cuimhní agus mianta na ndaoine laistigh de. Slánófar an t-ábhar scríofa – brionglóidí agus mianta na bpáistí don todhchaí ina measc – sa chapsúl ama agus roghnófar roinnt scríbhneoireachta don dromchla cré-umha. Roghnaíodh Rang 5, Seomra 13, chun páirt a ghlacadh i gceardlann scríbhneoireachta le Rachel, an t-ealaíontóir agus leis an bhfile Enda Wyley don tionscnamh seo.
Beidh na céadta pinn luaidhe múnlaithe i ndromchla an dearcáin mhóir seo. Cuirfear fáilte roimh gach duine a ghlac páirt sa tionscnamh iontach seo chuig an seoladh oifigiúil a bheidh ar siúl in Áras an Uachtaráin le linn 2017. Deis sontasach eile do phobal na Gaelscoile!
It involves working in conjunction with artist Rachel Joynt, who has been commissioned to create a large bronze acorn for the woodland garden of Áras an Uachtaráin, as part of many events this year to commemorate 2016.
Many of you will be familiar with Rachel’s work, one of her best known pieces being the‘Perpetual Motion’ large sculpture on the motorway just outside Naas. Rachel was also involved with us as a school when we commissioned our beautiful bronze sculptures which are on the entrance to the school.
Rachel will be making a large bronze acorn (the Oak being the national tree of Ireland) and inside it will house a time-capsule of people’s memories & wishes. The writings – which will include the children’s dreams and wishes for the future – will then be saved in the time-capsule and some selected text will be included on the bronze surface. Rang 5, Seomra 13, have been invited to take part in a writing workshop with Rachel, the artist, and poet, Enda Wyley for this project.
The acorn will have casts of hundreds of life size pencils integrated into the surface. The launch of the sculpture will take place in Áras an Uachtaráin in November 2017 and the children from each school who wrote pieces will be invited to attend. Another unique and very special opportunity for Gaelscoil pupils!
