Thug beirt ó Mharc-Aonad An Garda Siochana, maraon lena gcapaill Cumhaill agus Donagh, cuairt orainn ar an Déardaoin. Bhí an-suim again a chloisteáil faoin obair a bhíonn faoi bhun acu. Bíonn ar na capaill a bheith 160cm in airde, nó níos mó, chun go mbeidh radharc maith ag an nGarda trí shluaite. Roghnaítear na capaill de réir shéimhe agus tá ainmneacha orthu a bhaineann le scéalta miotaseolaíocha na h-Éireann. Bíonn capaill Tarraingthe Éireannach an-oiriúnach don obair seo.Tá an t-aonad lonnaithe in Áras an Uachtaráin i mBaile Átha Cliath ach téann siad ar fud na tíre ag freastal ar imeachtaí eagsúla.

Two members of the mounted unit and their horses Cumhaill and Donagh paid a visit to us on Monday. We were very interested in hearing about the work they do. Each horse must be at least 160 cms tall, to ensure that the Garda has a good view . The horses are chosen for their calm temperament and all have names from Irish mythology. Irish Draught horses are ideal for this work. The unit is based at Áras an Uachtaráin in the Phoenix Park in Dublin but they travel to various events all over Ireland .
