Bhí tráthnóna den scoth i nGarrán Duckett ag breis is tríocha páistí agus a dtuismitheorí agus iad ag éisteacht le scéalta faoin áit chéanna. Bhailigh an slua sa Seomra Tae agus tháinig cuid de mhuintir na háite chun a gcuimhní den cheantar a roinnt, a bhuíochas sin le Marian Kelly agus Mary Shannon. Chuir an lucht éisteachta an-shuim ‘sna scéalta a d’inis John Pender, Nellie O’ Brien agus Annmarie Waddock. Bhí cístí, borróga agus deochanna blasta curtha ar fáil ag Madeleine, bainisteoir an tSeomra Tae, agus bhain na páistí taitneamh as an seacláiod the ach go háirithe!

Bhí an slua faoi dhraíocht ag na scéalta faoin mBean Sí agus faoi thaibhsí agus ba mhór an greann a bhain siad as Annmarie, a d’inis dóibh faoi na laethanta go mbíodh sí ag taisteal ar bhoinéad charr Miss Brady agus iad ag filleadh ó pháirceanna na gcapall!

Tar éis na Nollag, tabharfaidh na páistí ámharacha seo faoin taighde atá déanta acu ar an gceantar áitiúil a mhúnlú go scéalta agus roinnfear na scéalta seo le hEoin Colfer san earrach.

Over thirty children and their parents had to chance to experience a lovely afternoon of recollection and stories about Duckett’s Grove on Saturday last. The venue was the Tea Room at Duckett’s Grove and thanks to Marian Kelly and Mary Shannon, a number of local people were invited to share their memories of the area. John Pender, Nellie O’ Brien and Annmarie Waddock all had tales to tell and the audience listened keenly to each and every one. Madeleine, proprietor of the Tea Room, provided everyone with delicious cake and buns and beverages, hot chocolate being the choice of the children.

Everyone present was enthralled by stories about the banshee and other “things that go bump in the night” as well as Annmarie’s account of travelling the road from the pony paddocks on the bonnet of Miss Brady’s car!

After Christmas, the lucky children who have been researching the history of the locality will begin work on their stories which will be shared with Eoin Colfer in the spring.
