Labhair Jimmy O’ Toole, údar “Carlow Gentry”, “Carlow’s International Achievers” agus leabhair eile, le daltáí sinsireacha na scoile faoi Gharrán Duckett agus d’inis sé scéalta fíor shuimiúla faoi mhuintir an tí sin thar na blianta. Thug sé chun cuimhne freisin laethanta a óige in aimsir Frances Brady, an duine deireanach a mhair sa teach.
Thug daltaí Rang 5 cuairt ar Gharrán Duckett an lá dár gcionn agus chonaic siad dóibh féin gnéithe an tí agus an ghairdín a raibh cur síos déanta ag Jimmy orthu. Beidh an t-eolas seo an-úsáideach freisin do na páistí atá páirteach i scéim Laureate na n-Óg ata bunaithe ar Gharrán Duckett. Bhronn Jimmy cuid dá shaothar ar leabharlann na scoile. is féidir na leabhair chéanna a ordú tríd an nasc seo.

Jimmy O’ Toole, author of the “Carlow Gentry” and “Carlow’s International Achievers” amongst other titles, gave some of our senior pupils a fascinating talk on Duckett’s Grove and the stories of those who lived and worked there down the years. He also recollected the days he spent there as a young person in the time of the last occupant of the house, Miss Frances Brady.

Our 5th class children paid a visit to Duckett’s Grove on the day after the talk and were able to see for themselves the features of both the house and the walled garden, so vividly described the previous day. This information will be also of great help to those children involved with the Laureate na n-Óg project on Duckett’s Grove.

Jimmy kindly donated a number of his publications to the school library after his lecture. These books may be purchased through this link.
